Adventures in Hair - Fall 2014

I continue to try and find new ways to do Kylee's hair, especially since she is going to school now. These are two super easy hair-dos, but thought I'd post them here anyway.

I was really excited to finally learn how to do an inside out french braid. Here, I did one on each side and finished with a pony tail.

This one is even simpler. Just a pony tail with rubber bands all the way down!

A Law Abiding Halloween!

Halloween this year was pretty awesome. Especially when compared to last year. Last year I was pregnant and not feeling well, Matt worked, and we didn't have Kylee. And we ran out of candy super early. This year, we made up for it and celebrated Halloween the entire month of October!

I already blogged about the Zoo Boise Spooktacular which was the first Halloween event of the season. Next on the agenda was a "grandkids" Halloween party put on by my parents. There was a pinata and Halloween bingo and lots of deliciously themed food. Nice work mom (and dad)! I'm hoping this becomes an annual tradition (wink, wink).

The week of Halloween also happened to be Red Ribbon Week at Kylee's school. There was a fun theme each day of the week, including Crazy Hair Day that Monday before Halloween. Kylee's hair-do for the day might not really be "crazy" but we sure had fun transforming her hair into a spider!

I also got to make treats for Kylee's class Halloween party... zombie eyeballs!

We had gorgeous weather the entire month of October, so we waited until just a few days before Halloween to carve our pumpkins so they wouldn't get moldy before the big day. I love that Kylee designed and carved her pumpkin all by herself! Crazy that she's big enough to do that!

We also roasted some pumpkin seeds, which were a big hit in our house. Kylee requested that we make pumpkin seeds every year! We followed the directions on this site and boiled our pumpkin seeds in salt water. We let them dry overnight on a cookie sheet and then used recipes from this site and made ranch and cinnamon sugar pumpkin seeds. Kylee's favorite were the cinnamon sugar.

We had a lot of fun trick-or-treating on Halloween night. Mandi and her kiddos joined us as we walked around the neighborhood. Kylee was a cop and Tyler was a jailbird.

This is Kylee's "I'm going to put you in jail" look.

And the "I gotcha" picture. Tyler wasn't too happy about this!

While we were out trick-or-treating, Kylee kept asking when we could go home. She really wanted to pass out candy with dad and scare the kids that came up to our door with a giant spider (much like they did the night before at the ward Trunk or Treat!). I thought it was great that she would rather pass out candy than get candy. Both she and Matt had a blast - like father like daughter! Matt is already planning what he might do differently/better next year!

Adventures in Hair - May 2014

I tried this super cute new hair-do a couple weeks ago. I followed this tutorial - it's called a waterfall braid. Unfortunately it didn't last long - you'll see in my pictures from Kylee's preschool graduation that she wore a graduation cap at the very beginning and her hair looked like a mess from there on out :-) But it sure was cute while it lasted!

Being a Mom

I sure love being a mom. I know I have said this many times, but I feel so lucky that Kylee is my daughter. I got to spend some extra time with Kylee these last few days, as I had a four day weekend, and we had Kylee extra for the holiday.  It was such a treat.  I wanted to take advantage of every minute with her.

We got our nails done before Jen's wedding.

Kylee and Matt got much needed haircuts.  Thanks Grandma!

We went to Build-a-Bear and Kylee got Twilight Sparkle.  She used $20 of her own money that she has been saving up.  Funny story... Before we went to Build-a-Bear, Kylee would get excited telling us she was going to "waste" her money on a Build-a-Bear :-)  She doesn't quite know the difference between "waste" and "spend".  Twilight Sparkle hasn't left Kylee's side since we left the store.

We did a craft project in preparation for Kylee's little brother.  We made some cute closet organizers, inspired by this post.

We also went to lunch with my family for my mom's birthday, went shopping, went on several walks, played at the park, had dinner with Matt's family with Michelle in town, and more.

One of my highlights from the weekend was that Kylee gave a talk in church.  She did such a great job!  Her talk was about how Heavenly Father hears and answers her prayers.  We worked on writing the talk together, and after just a few times of practicing (and some cheesy picture hints) she was able to say the entire thing almost all by herself!  After church, Kylee said that she was a little scared to give her talk, but then she felt Heavenly Father's arms around her and she was okay.  I was definitely a proud mama.

One more sweet moment from church... The music leader asked all the kids to close their eyes and think of a place that feels like heaven.  Then she asked the kids to open their eyes and share what place they thought of.  Kylee's answer was the temple.  We had just been to the temple the day before for Jen's wedding, so I'm sure the temple was on her mind, but hearing this made me so happy that she recognized Heavenly Father's spirit.

Experiments in Hair, Part 2

Sundays are really the only days I have time to "experiment" with Kylee's hair... I barely have time to run a brush through Kylee's hair during the week.  So here is Kylee's hair last Sunday and today.  They were both really easy.  My brother's wedding is coming up in a couple weeks, and I'm thinking about doing Kylee's hair like the first picture below.

This is three diagonal small pony tails, brought together and finished off with a diagonal braid across the back of Kylee's head, finished off with a low side pony.  I should have gotten her hair wet to try and get rid of the cowlick... next time!

This is an uneven braid.

Daisy Day Designs

My boss's wife Rachel recently started a cute little hair accessory business - Daisy Day Designs.  A couple weeks ago, I stopped by her booth at a local festival, and immediately fell in love with her work.  I haven't really accumulated much in the way of hair things for Kylee yet, so I picked up the following:

A Fourth of July "corker" bow:

Some cute lady bug clips:

And my favorite, a couple butterfly clips:

So if you're looking for something cute and fun for your little girl's hair, check out her website: www.daisydaydesigns.com!

Experiments in Hair

I have decided I'm no natural when it comes to styling hair.  This should be no surprise, considering the disaster the one time I tried to cut my own bangs.  Anyway, I have been experimenting over the last few months in trying to do Kylee's hair.  It is difficult with a three-year-old, because it's usually less than 30 minutes of playing before it looks like she hasn't had her hair done in days.  Oh well, I keep trying!  And I'm actually maybe getting better.  Here are a couple styles I tried this last week:
