Tyler is Two!

Happy happy birthday to Tyler! I can't believe it was just two years ago that Tyler joined our family. He has brought us so much happiness, laughter, frustration, and joy over the past couple years. We celebrated his birthday this weekend (and Kylee's) with a family birthday party and dinner at Red Robin.

Want to see what our little cutie has been up to lately? Get ready for photo overload!
  • Tyler doesn't really talk much (as in he doesn't say very many words yet), but he does love to "sing". He especially likes songs with hand motions (The Wheels on the Bus, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Popcorn Popping, etc).
  • He also likes to dance!
  • Tyler loves the iPad. And honestly, I am happy to let him have it (so much so that I thought about doing an entire post just on this topic). I do try to limit it, but it lets me take a shower, make dinner, or even blog :-) And you know what? He actually learns stuff when he watches the iPad. A couple of his favorite channels on YouTube are the Mother Goose Club and Pancake Manor. These channels are full of nursery rhymes, songs about colors/shapes, songs about animals and animal sounds, etc. I think watching some of these has spurred his love of music and dancing. His most recent YouTube love is Peppa Pig - he will watch those episodes over and over! Daniel Tiger is his favorite show on Netflix/Hulu, and I love it! Each show has a theme, such as sharing or "using your words" or trying new foods or calming down when you're angry, and has a little jingle to help you remember what you've learned. I will sing those jingles every now and then when Tyler needs a little reminder about something. Tyler also likes playing games - the Wombi games are some of his favorites (Wombi Ice Cream, Wombi Toys, and Wombi Detective). I think the Wombi Toys game taught him about matching because one part of it requires you to sort legos into the appropriate color bins. It prompted me to play other sorting games with him, like having him put the Go-Fish cards in stacks according to color. His favorite color is blue. He is becoming a little smarty pants.
  • Tyler also likes my phone, but I never let him play with it since he has been known to send text messages, call people, etc. :-) He did manage to get my phone a few times and take some selfies though (you can take pictures without unlocking the phone).

  • His favorite food is pizza, but he also likes berries (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries), macaroni, chicken nuggets, popcorn, cereal, granola bars, soup (mushroom, cheddar broccoli) and anything sweet. Tyler hates getting his hands dirty, so always wants to eat with a fork or spoon. He has only gained about a pound in the last 6 months and weighs in around 24 pounds. He is tall and skinny making it hard to find pants that fit him. Not many pants at this age have the adjustable waist band, so he has still been wearing 12-18 month pants up until recently when I was tired of it looking like he was wearing capris. Now his pants just always fall down :-) We finally transitioned him off a bottle. He was only getting them when he went to bed, but I knew he didn't need them anymore. I just took them away one day, and he didn't complain at all. He does still like milk at bed, though, so he gets it in a sippy cup.
  • Tyler thinks stickers are the greatest thing ever. He also likes to color and play with play dough. I just ordered a paint with water book - I know he'll love that too!

  • He recently transitioned to a "big boy bed"... mostly because we needed the crib for Bradley! Tyler does well sleeping in it for naps and at night, but we still struggle with him getting out of bed a dozen times when we first put him down (even after several weeks). It's SO frustrating!

  • Tyler likes playing at the park. No, let me rephrase that... he LOVES playing at the park. I feel like I should take him every day. He would love it and it would be nice for him to get some energy out. Unfortunately, I don't take him super often because I have to deal with his fit throwing when it's time to leave. He has become quite the fit thrower and I don't know what to do about it! He throws fits whenever it's time to leave somewhere he wants to stay (the park, grandma's, etc). It's embarrassing and frustrating. I may have been known to bribe him with M&M's when it's time to leave. I do have hope, though. I remember Kylee used to throw fits when it was time to leave grandma's house, and now she's a little angel :-)

  • Tyler loves his dad. One of his favorite songs is "I'm so Glad When Daddy Comes Home." He also thinks it's pretty cool to wear daddy's gloves, daddy's hat, daddy's shoes, etc.
  • Tyler also loves Kylee. She is his best friend. He wants to do anything she is doing and have any toy she is playing with :-) He also loves riding in the "cars" at the grocery store!

  • Tyler recently went to his first movie... he did really well for the first hour. After that? Well, let's just say I'm glad we were at the dollar theater and there weren't a lot of people there!
  • Balls are some of Tyler's favorite toys. He always wants to kick, throw, or shoot a ball. I just have to remind him, when he tries to throw other toys, that "we only throw balls."
  • Tyler thinks our new fish are pretty cool.
  • Tyler gives the best hugs and kisses. He gives them out freely. He also gives kisses when he knows he has done something wrong. It is his way of saying he is sorry.
  • Tyler still loves reading books. He especially loves the Pigeon books by Mo Willems.
I sure love this boy of mine. He is my best buddy and keeps me company during the day. I am looking forward to lots more learning and playing with him.

First Lost Tooth!

Kylee has been soooo anxious to lose a tooth. She told me how she was one of the only ones in her kindergarten class last year who hadn't lost a tooth. Well, she finally lost her first tooth last month. She came home from school with a little "treasure box" that held her tooth. Of course she had to write a note to the tooth fairy before she went to bed. Take a look at these demands!

In case you can't see the picture, her note says:
Rite me a note back and rite me a leter every week. And put feet marks on my wall. And rite me your name on this piece of paper.

Wow, she expects a lot from her tooth fairy! The "tooth fairy" tried to sneak in several times during the night, but Kylee woke up each time. Matt made up excuses as to why he was in her room (i.e. I was checking to see if the tooth fairy had come yet)... I don't think Kylee slept a lick because she was so excited! The tooth fairy ended up leaving a note outside her door that she couldn't come in and take the tooth because her dad was up all night walking around the house and she didn't want to get caught (Matt was on a night shift schedule). The tooth fairy ended up sending her on a scavenger hunt. She got a gold dollar coin at each of four spots in the house. Lucky girl! She would have only gotten a dollar if the tooth fairy had been able to actually go in and take the tooth!

As for the note every week, the tooth fairy left a note one week later saying that she was very busy but that she would write Kylee a note when she lost her next tooth. That seemed to satisfy Kylee... phew!

Bradley's Blessing

Sunday was Bradley's baby blessing. It was extra special because his cousin Chase was also blessed that day! Here are a few pictures from the day:

Four generations!

I also wanted to record the actual blessing. I am thankful for the priesthood, and thankful for Matt and his worthiness to bless our sweet baby boy.

Our dear Heavenly Father, we come before you as holders of the Melchizedek priesthood. We desire to give this baby a name and a blessing. The name by which he shall be known is Bradley Morgan Hudson. Bradley, we also desire to give you a blessing at this time, that you will know the great love and support you have, and that you will have throughout your entire life. You have a family and you will have friends that will support you and help you to make righteous decisions. We bless you to know that you will be able to find strength in your family, and that you will be a strength for your siblings and for other members of your family as they look to you as an example, look to you for guidance, and for an example of how to live a righteous life. We bless you with the ability to discern good from evil, that you will know the good things in the world and seek after them, and that you will know to avoid the temptations that will be around you, that you will recognize them and know them for what they are and seek the good things in life. We bless you as you progress and grow that you will find joy in helping others, in serving others, and in doing those things that lift and help others around you. We bless you to be always aware of the spirit, to listen to the spirit as it guides and directs you throughout your life. Bradley, we bless you to grow and to have a successful life, that you will complete the ordinances which our Lord has set aside for us to be able to return to Him, and that as you do those things that you will find joy and peace in your life, and you will progress through this plan of salvation. Bradley, we bless you with these things, and all the other things which our Heavenly Father has set aside for you. We do this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Pumpkin Patch... Times Two!

Can I just say how much I love fall!?! One of the things I love is pumpkin. I love pumpkin cookies, pumpkin bars, carving pumpkins, baking pumpkin seeds, etc. I also have a more recent love of picking pumpkins from a pumpkin patch!

This year, I was able to go to two different pumpkin patches. The first one I went to was with Tyler, Bradley (not even a week old!), my parents, BJ, and Beki's family. It was at a local fire station - the firemen had grown pumpkins back behind their station and held a fun event to raise money for the Fallen Firefighters Foundation. In addition to lots of pumpkins to pick from, they had a straw bail maze, a bounce house, a Boise State fire truck, and yummy treats.

They also gave the kids free firemen hats and let them check out the fire engines. Tyler thought that was pretty cool!

A couple weeks before Halloween, we went to a pumpkin patch at The Berry Ranch as a family. We had so much fun taking a hay ride out to the huge pumpkin patch and selecting our pumpkins. There was a flat rate based on age - the stipulation was you had to be able to carry your own pumpkin. The kids had a blast, and so did Matt and I. We decided that would be our new family tradition!

Mummy's Little Monster, a Soccer Player, and a Cowboy

I sure love these three cuties. We only actually took one of them trick-or-treating. Kylee was with her mom for Halloween this year and Bradley is of course too little for candy, so Tyler was our lone trick-or-treater. Matt took him to just a few houses on our street before he had to head off to work. The rest of the evening, Tyler helped me pass out candy. He didn't understand why I wouldn't let him eat all the candy from our bucket and he would get quite upset if I didn't let him answer the door! He did get pretty good at putting candy in other kids' buckets though! We passed out candy to about 150 kids this year... Unfortunately I bought a lot more candy than that, so I have to exercise self-control with what we have left :-)

And I just have to post this last picture... Kylee had a "home project" for school where she had to decorate a pumpkin in a way that represented one of her interests. No surprises for how she decided to decorate her pumpkin!

Kylee's Soccer Season Wraps Up

Kylee's first soccer season wrapped up last weekend.  All I can say about soccer is that she absolutely LOVED it! Her mom had her in gymnastics last year and Kylee would tell me over and over how much she didn't like going to gymnastics, so I'm really glad she found an activity that she likes! We loved watching Kylee play. She was definitely one of the top two players on her team. She was aggressive and wasn't afraid to get the ball, even if someone on the other team had it (unlike most of her team who would back off if they saw someone else had the ball). Kylee enjoyed playing goalie (crazy girl!) and she scored a goal in almost every game. She is already looking forward to starting indoor soccer this winter, and we are looking forward to watching her!

Family Pictures 2015

Jen also took some family pictures for us. I figured it was about time I update the photos above my mantle! I love how these turned out!

Newborn Photo Shoot

My friend Jen was super generous and came over to take pictures of Bradley when he was five days old. Here are some of my favorites.
